Child support is customarily paid by the non-custodial parent to the custodial parent to share in the cost of raising a child. The custodial parent is the parent with whom the child resides with the majority of the time.
Under California law, child support is determined under statewide formula. This formula is based on gross incomes of the parents, the amount of time the child spends with the non-custodial parent, the cost of childcare, and several other factors.
