Mitch Onu is the principal owner of The Onu Law Firm. His practice focuses on a diverse range of transactional and litigation matters involving intellectual property, employment, business and real estate matters.
Mitch has extensive experience handling all aspects of business, intellectual property, real estate and employment litigation in administrative agencies, state and federal courts nationwide, including dispute resolution and jury trials.
Mitch also provides business counseling services to a variety of clients ranging from small, entrepreneurial businesses to mid-sized publicly traded companies. In this capacity, Mitch serves as general counsel, and assists emerging, small and mid-sized businesses with all of their legal needs.
Prior to starting his own practice, Mitch worked as an associate for a large Alameda-based firm. Mitch also clerked for the San Mateo and Santa Clara District Attorney’s Office.
Mitch graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003. He received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Mitch serves on various civic and charitable organizations in the community. Mitch and his wife reside in Northern California with their daughter and two dogs.

- Represented an international company with subsidiaries in Europe, Asia and West Africa as general counsel, providing day-to-day legal advice in the corporate, intellectual property and international trade matters
- Represented a retail company in asset and real estate acquisitions
- Advised on the sale of a consulting and software development company
- Assisted an oil and gas company in West Africa with regional integration, completing investment in domestic oil and gas assets, as well as with upstream arrangements, including joint exploration and development agreements, production sharing arrangements and joint operating agreements
- Counseled a mid-sized company on contracting, financing, licensing, outsourcing, domestic and international structures and operations, and related matters
- Counseled start-up business with content and media licensing, portfolio analysis and business strategies in an effort to maximize the value of your intellectual property
- Secured cease and desist order, retraction, and small settlement for multi-million dollar corporation in online defamation claim against Yelp, Inc.
- Represented a mid-sized business regarding trademark infringement dispute with the manufacturer, obtaining a favorable settlement.
- Obtained judgment and favorable settlement on behalf of Plaintiffs for internet based defamation and removal of online defamatory content.
- Obtained a favorable settlement on behalf of Plaintiff for employment dispute involving claims of sexual harassment and retaliation.
- Obtained a favorable settlement on behalf of a California businessman for misappropriation of his trade secrets.
